What is sqemes Chat for when I already have ChatGPT?

Four things it can do that a plain chat cannot — and a straight answer about the many cases where your existing chat is the better tool.

For: everyone. A fair question, and it deserves a fair answer rather than a sales pitch — so this article also says where ChatGPT is the better choice.

sqemes Chat is a chat inside the webapp, running on an AI provider your workspace connected or on the credits in your plan. The model is not the point — it is probably the same family of model you already use. What differs is what the chat has access to.

What it can do that a plain chat cannot

  • Personas. A role that pulls in the right playbook when the situation calls for it. This only works here and over MCP, never in the browser extension.

  • Your workspace files as context. A price list, a style guide, a contract template that your team maintains in one place — not a copy somebody uploaded to their own chat six weeks ago.

  • Connectors. The chat can reach other systems your workspace has connected, so a question can be answered against real data instead of from memory.

  • Sharing a session. A conversation can be made visible to the workspace, so “how did you get that result” has an answer that is not a screenshot.

The common thread: everything here is shared and maintained. A personal chat accumulates context that lives and dies with one person.

Where ChatGPT or Claude is the better tool

Genuinely, and not reluctantly:

  • Everyday questions with no company context. Rewriting a sentence, explaining an error message, thinking out loud. Nothing in sqemes improves that, and switching tabs for it is pure overhead.

  • You already pay for it and like it. Your subscription there is not wasted by using sqemes; the extension exists precisely so your playbooks come to you instead.

  • You want that product's own features. Voice, image generation, its particular apps and integrations — sqemes Chat does not reimplement those and is not trying to.

  • Your team lives there and will not move. Then use the extension. A tool nobody opens helps nobody.

The way most teams end up using both

Everyday thinking stays wherever it already happens, with the extension supplying playbooks there. sqemes Chat gets used for the work that needs the shared parts — a persona, a maintained file, a connector, or a conversation somebody else will need to read.

That split is not a compromise; it is what the three channels exist for. You are not supposed to migrate.

⚠️ One practical requirement: sqemes Chat needs either plan credits or a connected provider key before it will do anything. If it appears to be broken on a new workspace, that is usually the reason.
